In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night hang.

Each night Monday to Saturday, after the main act, Ronnie Scott’s presents the Late Late Show, where some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session.

During his years in Australia from the 70s to the mid-90s Carl worked with Jackie Orszacky, Dale Barlow, Marcia Hines and Steve Hunter. After moving to London in 1995 he worked with Billy Cobham from 1996-2000 and in that context he performed with Randy Brecker, Ernie Watts, Gary Husband and George Duke. Since then he has been concentrating on his own music as well as working with many other artists including Sean Wayland, Tammy Weis and Nathan Haines. Carl has 7 cds to his credit and is featured on albums by Billy Cobham, Dale Barlow, Nathan Haines,Jackie Orszaczky and many others. Carl teaches guitar at Middlesex University and The Academy of Contemporary Music.

"Nobody had heard of Carl Orr until he astonished London on tour with US drum phenomenon Billy Cobham." Jack Massarik, Evening Standard

"...a masterful guitarist"...Musician magazine

Carl Orr is of the mind that his music can help make the world better. That is naïve to some. But those are the people who need to listen more. A musician has to believe in his music. He must also show a faith in a greater purpose, or his music will not be believable to others. Orr reaches out to believers and non-believers alike. He has already done so on past recordings such as Deep Down and Absolute Freedom. On Emergence he does so again. Orr is joined by a group of gifted musicians. Together they put forth a vision of a world that demands peaceful means to peaceful ends. Carl Orr is one of our finest jazz-rock guitarists and composers. The guitar is his weapon for peace and he knows how to wield it. Orr is a true believer. This is demonstrated on profound tunes of protest, warning, hope and peace. The message of his music will make you believe too.
