JEAN TOUSSAINT

Born in the US Virgin Islands and raised in New York, Grammy-winning US jazz saxophone giant Jean Toussaint began his international career as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1982. After four and a half years in the band alongside Terence Blanchard, Donald Harrison, Lonnie Plaxico and Mulgrew Miller, he settled in London, quickly becoming a key figure in British jazz. Toussaint has maintained a considerable presence as bandleader in Europe, especially in Britain and France, and worked in the groups of Americans such as McCoy Tyner, Max Roach, Cedar Walton, Gil Evans and Jeff 'Tain' Watts.

Tate Song features Toussaint's working quartet of pianist Andrew McCormack, bassist Larry Bartley and drummer Troy Miller. The set includes originals by Toussaint and McCormack, plus the standard ‘These Foolish Things’ and Milton Nascimento’s ‘Vera Cruz’. Following his 2010 release Live In Paris And London, which The Independent described as "a state-of-the-art disquisition on both sax technique and post-bop jazz", Tate Song is Toussaint’s tenth album and includes liner notes by pianist/broadcaster Julian Joseph. Following its release on February 24th the band, also known as JT4, will perform fourteen UK dates in March, including a headlining show at Ronnie Scott's, London.

CD Launch JT4, Jean Toussaint Quartet, "Tate Song" This fine recording is Toussaint's tenth as a leader co-leader and, according to all reports, his greatest thus far.

The CD was produced and recorded by master drummer Troy Miller who also fills the drum chair with great flare and interaction. It also features, presently living in Brooklyn USA, fantastic British pianist/composer Andrew McCormack and it's all held together by the steadily striving pulse of ace bassist Larry Bartley.

This is all led from the front by the great saxophonist, who has been described as, a master of sound, rhythmic, harmonic and melodic synergy. They will both surprise and delight you with their repertoire of unique originals and interestingly arranged standards. Not to be missed
