- Jazzwise Magazine
“The Queen of Swing!”
- Ian Shaw (BBC Jazz Awards winner Best Vocalist 2004 & 2007)
Resident at Ronnie Scott’s in London since 2008, international singing sensation Kai Hoffman has “a great ability to sell whatever song she is singing, and put it across with bags of personality... using the richness of her voice to great effect, and also displaying fine pitch and great phrasing... One of the finest vocalists and performers around on the scene today.” (Ray Gelato, for London Jazz Blog).
With an “...an insatiable joie de vivre rare in these cynical times" (Stephen Graham, Marlbank), Kai Hoffman’s newest album Do It While You Can has received great critical acclaim. “Jazz forgets, all too often, the virtues of the entertaining and the joyful. Hoffman doesn't.” (Bruce Lindsay, All About Jazz).
Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, ex-pat Kai is a versatile, sought-after performer at London’s finest jazz clubs and festivals around the world, with her mainstream-jazz-based Do It While You Can project and her jump jive & swing band, Kai’s Cats, the duet show Hey Boy! Hey Girl! with Ray Gelato & the Giants, and much more. From the Sheraton Hotel in Bangladesh to the Royal Albert Hall in London – with The Blue Note, Milan, Italy, and London’s Ronnie Scott’s Club, The 606 Club & The 100 Club in between – Kai has developed a truly authentic vocal style, reminiscent of the greatest jazz singers of the 20th Century.
