Tonight's show features two of the great exponents inspired by the New Orleans sound from two different perspectives - vocalist TJ Johnson and all-brass ensemble Bad Ass Brass.
BAD ASS BRASS
Since forming in 2008, Bad Ass Brass has been thrilling audiences with its bold, funky music and high adrenaline performances. The band takes its influence from the sounds of traditional New Orleans brass bands but adds its own unique twist. Bad Ass Brass is comprised of some of the UK’s finest brass players and jazz musicians who are busy working on the London music scene in jazz bands, West End shows, big bands and orchestras and their strong sense of friendship results in an electric presence on stage.
Their self titled debut album has quickly become a Jazz FM favourite with regular airplay on the station leading to a live nationwide broadcast and several appearances at Jazz FM live events. 2011 saw the band perform to sell out crowds at the St Lucia Jazz Festival, the London Jazz Festival, the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room and Ronnie Scott’s jazz club.
“It is difficult to convey in words the level of vivacity that this group of zesty musicians exudes.”
Steve Haynes, the Brass Herald
“When Bad Ass Brass took to the stage they kept the audience on their feet into the early hours. It was the perfect start to the year!”
James Pearson, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club
“Bad Ass Brass were simply amazing! From the moment they came on stage their incredible energy was contagious and their performance was fantastic from start to finish.”
Michele Finley, the Royal Albert Hall
