NEW EP - ‘Oh The Water’
RELEASE Date 4th February 2013
JP Cooper is proud to announce the release of his new 3-track EP, ‘Oh The Water’, due out on 8h February on No 1 Records. The EP was recorded in JP’s hometown of Manchester in October/November 2012 and was produced by JP Cooper & Simon Robbs and mixed by Dan Edinburg from New York band Stepkids (Stones Throw).
In addition to the 3 tracks that make up the main CD…there is also a second CD containing 3 remixes of the title track by Don Diablo, Murkage Cartel and Monochrome all brilliant in their own right, they offer a different flavour to the original and JP is delighted with the results.

Commenting on the title track of the EP, JP says:
“Oh The Water”. Is basically about saving yourself from the belief that you can’t do something. This song was massively born out of self-doubt. It’s me having a word with myself; it’s about facing something and figuring it out, rather than sweeping it under the rug’
JP Cooper was raised by his father and four older sisters in a three up two down in Middleton, North Manchester. He came a bit late to music as it didn’t feature prominently in his household in his formative years, though he does fondly remember sing-a-longs in the car on camping trips featuring the likes of ‘Lily The Pink’ and ‘You’ve Got A Friend’.
“I was born into a Catholic family in the 80's. My parents were artists, as was my granddad so the process of creation was always something that was around us.”
At 16 JP was singing in a prog metal band with some school mates. The band became local storm in a tin can Kid Conspiracy with JP doing his best Vedder impression. A more experimental schizo pop outfit called Eskimo Cowboy followed when JP was at college.
Since then he’s discovered some amazing singers along the way, finding inspiration in the Motown sound of Stevie, Marvin and Smokey, the nu-soul of D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Michelle Ndegeocello via Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers.
He’s produced two EPs to date which are only available at his gigs. EP1(2011), features ‘Oh Brother’, ‘Little House We Built’, ‘Learn From The Landscapes’, ‘I’ve Been Watching’ and ‘While You Sleep’. EP2 (2012) features ‘The Only Reason’, ‘My Father’s House’, ‘Halo’ and ‘The Snow Be A Comin’. Both initial run of these EPs (1500 copies) have now SOLD OUT
JP has also toured the UK a number of times and was that good in the afternoon at Jamie Oliver/Alex James’s 2012 Feastival Festival he was asked to perform again between The Noisettes and Paloma Faith that evening, where once again he wowed the 10,000 strong crowd, Solo!!
JP sets off on a short tour in February to promote this next EP release where you can catch him ….
JP has been chosen as a BBC Introducing ‘One To Watch’ for 2013 and as a result of a live session for them late last year, recorded The Beatles ‘All You Need Is Love’ which is now available as a free download via this video link:
JP has recently collaborated with Dutch DJ Don Diablo providing the lyrics and top line to a touching tribute to Don’s father who recently passed away.
