Stirred and strained into a chilled absinthe rinsed glass, lemon twists. Hennessy Fine de Cognac, Peychaud’s bitters, La Fée Absinthe Parisien. The Sazerac cocktail is to New Orleans what the Margarita is to the southwest. It is reported to be the world’s first cocktail.

jazz negroni

Stirred over ice in a tumbler, garnished with a squeezed orange wedge. Plymouth gin, Jägermeister, Dubonnet aperitif, orange bitters. The most revered of all Italian cocktails. Named after Count Camillo Negroni who always ordered his Americano with gin instead of the soda. In the spirit of improvisation, we came up with this last week, replacing the Campari with Jägermeister.

Shaken not stirred and strained into a chilled Champagne goblet. “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large slice of lemon-peel.” This famous cocktail was created by Gilberto Preti for Ian Fleming, who used it in his first Bond novel ‘Casino Royale’ in 1951.

Iced up, stirred and poured into a chilled cocktail glass, orange twist. Tanqueray gin, Dubonnet aperitif, Maraschino liqueur, bitters. Many believe this to be the predecessor to the Martini. It was first seen in print in ‘Professor’ Jerry Thomas’ ‘Bartender’s guide’ in the 1880s.

Stirred and served ‘sweet’ in a chilled cocktail glass with a cherry. Van Winkle 10yr old Bourbon, Punt e Mes aperitivo, Cherry Marnier, bitters. In the US, this classic - combining domestic Rye whisky, bitters and newly imported Italian vermouth - may have been invented in the Manhattan club around 1874.

Mixed up and poured into a Champagne flute beneath a sexy rasberry. Buffalo Trace bourbon, pink grapefruit juice, raspberry syrup, champagne. This drink is based on the “Blinker” cocktail, which originally called specifically for grenadine and was served without champagne. But we wanted to spoil you.
