Hosted by soul singer Natalie Williams and her band, Soul Family Weekend offers the chance to catch some of the best R&B, soul and jazz musicians in the UK up close and personal. This makes for one of the best musical evenings in London this year. While guests vary, there is always the opportunity to hear music of the highest quality where the stars of the British scene showcase their material in an exciting ad hoc setting.

Biography:


Natalie Williams has become an essential fixture on the UK soul and jazz scene. With 3 critically acclaimed albums under her belt, Natalie, as a singer and songwriter has drawn comparisons to Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Aretha Franklin.

Born and raised in Berlin, Germany with a Yugoslav-Hungarian mother and British father, Natalie moved from Berlin to London in 1997, graduating in 2001 from the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama, having been the first person to study both classical and jazz singing on the undergraduate course.

Since then Natalie has performed as a solo artist all over the UK at all kinds of venues and festivals, including concerts with and alongside other luminaries as US Rn’B star Joe, Lemar, Alison Moyet, Amy Winehouse, Terri Walker and Omar.

Internationally she has toured extensively in Europe, Japan and Malaysia, including appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival and Kathmandu Jazz Festival. She was playlisted on Radio 2 with her single ‘This Girl’, and has also enjoyed extensive airplay on Radio 1 thanks to Trevor Nelson, Gilles Peterson, Ras Kwame and Ronnie Herel, most recently being invited with her 10 piece band to record a live session at the famous Maida Vale studios.

In 2007, Natalie was nominated for a Ronnie’s award for best jazz singer, as well as winning best video at that year’s Urban Music Awards with ‘This Girl’ and 2008 saw her supporting Kyle Eastwood on tour as well as collaborate with the incredible beatboxer Shlomo, performing at his Music Through Unconventional Means concert series, and joining him on stage with the Vocal Orchestra at Glastonbury Festival.

Soul Family Sundays has become a bit of a legendary monthly singers night, which has seen superb guest appearances from the likes of Hamish Stuart, Jamie Cullum, Lucie Silvas, Alice Russell, Vula, Eska Mtungwazi, Beth Rowley, Gwyneth Herbert, Nate James and Ben Westbeech….

Natalie is currently working on her 4th album project due to be released in early 2009.
