Information on Hugh Cornwell - The Stranglers and Beyond

Ronnie Scott’s is extremely proud to present a one-night-only show from one of the greatest singer-songwriter talents of the UK music scene - Hugh Cornwell, former guitarist and singer with The Stranglers, plays the club as part of his 2008 acoustic tour. With a run of hits including Golden Brown, Always The Sun, Walk On By, No More Heroes and Skin Deep, The Stranglers endeared themselves to audiences with their idiosyncratic brand of thoughtful punk-rock. Cornwell has been recording his own material since the late Seventies and since parting ways with The Stranglers in 1990 he has enjoyed a hugely successful solo career, releasing several albums in recent years while continuing to hone his craft. An icon of popular musical culture, his solo spot at Ronnie’s will show just why he has remained at the top of his game throughout the years.

“He remains a hugely popular and prolific performer whose songwriting retains its’ fiery eloquence and whose gigs still crackle with electricity” - Classic Rock

“Hugh has the edge when it comes to emphasising the eloquence, melodies and weird time signatures that often under-pinned even The Stranglers' gruffest tracks…But it's his solo material that really cuts a dash” - Mojo
