Ray Gelato is probably the UK’s foremost exponent of swinging good-time jazz, and if he’s good enough to perform privately for Paul McCartney and the Queen, he’s good enough for Ronnie Scott’s! Following in the footsteps of Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong and Cole Porter, Gelato has been getting audiences jumpin’ and jivin’ since he picked up the saxophone in the late ‘70s. He has recorded several albums as both a leader and sideman, but it is in his live performances where his energy really comes to the fore. Gelato is a familiar face at Ronnie Scott’s and he makes a welcome return to the club, his driving tenor and effervescent vocals backed up by his stunning band, the Giants, with Danny Marsden on trumpet, Alex Garnett on saxophones, Andy Rogers on trombone, Gunther Kuermayr on piano, Mike Janisch on bass and Elliott Henshaw on drums.
