Information on The Cookers feat. Eddie Henderson plus Devlin Love

In 1965, Blue Note Records recorded a concert at the Club La Marchal in Brooklyn where trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan engaged in what has since been regarded by many as the pinnacle of the hard-bop era in jazz. Entitled Night Of The Cookers, this concert and recording was the inspiration for the formation of The Cookers, a group featuring some of the great exponents of the music from both the time of its inception and the present day.

With Eddie Henderson and David Weiss on trumpets, Billy Harper on tenor, Craig Handy on alto, George Cables on piano, Cecil McBee on bass and Billy Hart on drums, the group performs freshly arranged versions of classic hard-bop numbers composed by its various members. The all-star cast have between them played with the best, including Hubbard and Morgan, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Joe Henderson, Horace Silver, Jackie McClean, Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins amongst many, many others, and as an ensemble provide a stunning perspective on the music of their combined heritage.
