Information on Miles Davis tribute: Porgy & Bess
Miles Davis' 1958 recording Porgy And Bess is widely regarded as one of the classic albums of the 1950s. Originally arranged and conducted by Gil Evans, the interpretation of George Gershwin's famous opera has held its own over the years; the sumptuous orchestration, virtuoso playing from Miles and the assembled cast of musicians, including Cannonball Adderley, Jimmy Cobb, Jimmy Cleveland, and gorgeous reworkings of songs such as I Loves You Porgy and Summertime have kept this album close to the hearts of music fans the world over. Now, half a century on, Ronnie Scott's offers the chance to revisit this seminal album with a performance from some of the UK's top players, with trumpeter extraordinaire Gerard Presencer stepping up to take the place of Davis as featured soloist.
