The Jazz Verse Jukebox welcomes national & international poets on Sunday 13th July 2014 to a special night with live jazz trio & Open Mic. With cushions to lounge on, cocktails to imbibe & surprises, this is the one night not to miss!

A.F. HARROLD (@AFHarrold)
A.F. Harrold is an English poet (1975 - present). He writes and performs for adults and children, in cabaret and in schools, in bars and in basements, in fields and indoors. He was Glastonbury Festival Website's Poet-In-Residence in 2008, and Poet-In-Residence at Cheltenham Literature Festival in 2010. He won the Cheltenham All Stars Slam Championship in 2007 and has had his work on BBC Radio 4, Radio 3 and BBC7. He is active in schools work, running workshops and slams and doing performances at ungodly hours of the morning, and has published several collections of poetry. He is the owner of many books, a handful of hats, a few good ideas and one beard.

RAINA LEÓN (@rainaleon)
Dr Raina León is an assistant Professor at St Mary's College California and is the author of the 2005 collection of poetry, Canticle of Idols —a finalist for both the Cave Canem First Book Poetry Prize (2005) and the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize (2006). Her most recent collection of poems, Boogeyman Dawn (2013), was a finalist for the Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award. León was recognized by the Poetry Society of America, America’s oldest poetry organization, in its 2013 list of U.S. Latino/a Voices in Poetry. She also is a founding editor of The Acentos Review, an online quarterly, international journal devoted to the promotion and publication of Latino and Latina arts.

BEN NORRIS (@BenNorris7)
Ben Norris is an actor, writer and spoken-word artist, and the reigning UK All-Stars Poetry Slam champion. Summer 2014 sees the arrival of his first single-authored collection of poetry, published by Nasty Little Press. This summer, he will also be developing his first solo show, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Family', with support from Apples & Snakes. Ben was recently commissioned by the Southbank Centre to write two poems for their Pull Out All The Stops festival, and performed his commissions on BBC Radio 3. His plays have been staged at Theatre 503, Leicester Curve, and the University of Birmingham.

Four Kornerz are a Mobo nominated band of Nigerian heritage. The siblings are renown for energetic live shows which boast an eclectic and dynamic mix of Soul, Gospel, funk and Nigerian rhythms. Their new project deeper is making waves with stand out singles "GOLD" and "Lean On My Shoulder"

The monthly JAZZ VERSE JUKEBOX has been described as "the perfect jazz poetry party" (Michael Horovitz). It's where established and upcoming spoken word poets & singers gather to share their artistry. The brainchild of broadcaster & vocalist Jumoké Fashola, 2014 Upstairs @ Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Soho, features an amazing line-up of artistes continuing the age-old tradition of intertwining jazz and performance poetry, plus a unique ‘jukebox’ OPEN MIC allowing the audience to showcase their skills of jazz improvisation or spoken word.
3. About JUMOKE FASHOLA (@jumokefashola)
Jumoké is the creator and host of the monthly Jazz Verse Jukebox at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club (Upstairs) London. She currently presents Inspirit with Jumoké Fashola, BBC London 94.9’s Sunday Breakfast magazine programme (5.30am – 9am). She presented The Ronnie Scott's Radio Show on Jazz FM. Other radio credits include, Late Show (BBC London 94.9fm) You and Yours (Radio 4) Pause for Thought (Radio 2), Everywoman (BBC World Service), Good Morning Sunday (Radio 2). Her TV credits include the Holiday Programme (BBC1), Summer Holiday (BBC1) Summer Praise (BBC1). Jumoké has sung most musical forms from Handel to Gershwin to Gospel to Bernstein, at venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the London Arena. Her solo repertoire comprises an edgy blend of jazz, R&B and soul, eloquently expressed and dynamically delivered. Time Out Magazine describes her as a “Head-spinningly versatile singer". Her debut album, ‘The Condition of Being A Woman’ was released in Feb 2014.
