A welcome return of this Brazilian jazz singer/guitarist and her band. Joyce got her start in music by listening to her brother play the guitar, as well as listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis and Billie Holiday for inspiration on emotions conveyed in music.
Joyce refers to her music as "MCB" (Creative Music of Brazil) and this night will offer an opportunity to experience the unique spirit of Brazilian jazz music in an intimate surrounding.
Biography:
Brazilian music legend Antonio Carlos Jobim once called Joyce Moreno ‘one of the best singers of all time. [She has] bossa, tuning, improvisation, rhythm, musicality, femininity, courage, total command of the ball.’ Emerging onto the thriving bossa nova scene of the 1960s, Joyce quickly became a star, acclaimed both for her songwriting and for her musicianship, both as a singer and a guitarist.
"Slow Music " has been nominated for the 2010 Latin Grammy, as Best Brazilian Album!
New solo album „ RIO“ just released on FarOut Records!
“A varied, intimate set that provides a reminder of both her vocal range and her equally fine instrumental skill; she has a distinctive, fresh, no-nonsense style. A gently classic tribute to her home city” The Guardian ****
“Brazilian icon Joyce is on heartfelt home territory with her new album Rio. It’s undeniably familiar, with Joyce’s distinctive, mellow yet perky vocals. There’s real beauty in its directness and in Joyce’s passion for the city and her fellow cariocas.” Metro
“A samba psycho-geography of sorts, cherry picking vintage songs, faces and places, and moments-in-time that chart her personal relationship with Brazil’s terminally iconic city-by-the- sea" Songlines ****
