Kevin Fitzsimmons Sextet: Bennett to Buble - The American Songbook At It’s Best

Following four terrific sell-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s, charismatic singer/songwriter Kevin Fitzsimmons takes a break from starring in big band show ‘Sinatra Sequins & Swing - The Capitol Years Live! to return with his superlative band that includes Ronnie Scott’s All-Stars saxophonist Alex Garnett, pianist Leon Greening - and UK’s premier jazz flautist Gareth Lockrane, a US & UK award-winning flute virtuoso you shouldn’t miss.

One of the UK’s classiest singers, Kevin Fitzsimmons leads the brilliant ‘Bennett-To-Buble:The American Songbook At Its Best’ show with an evocatively powerful, earthy vocal and a delivery that avoids the usual clichés. The show is a clever mix of carefully chosen jazz standards covered by Messrs Bennett, Buble & co, blended with creative West Coast cool, sparkling rhythms and jazzy lounge plus interesting new jazz improvisations to one or two iconic contemporary pop classics - all in the space of two relentlessly entertaining lunchtime sets. Don’t miss the chance to see this line-up live in London, always a wonderful afternoon of top jazz.

Band: Kevin Fitzsimmons (vocals), Alex Garnett (tenor sax), Gareth Lockrane (flute), Leon Greening (piano), Dominic Howles (bass), Matt Fishwick (drums)

Kevin Fitzsimmons Biography
Being the son of a late 50s model & a singer/pianist father, with family members who’ve acted in films with Richard Burton, Peter Sellers, Michael Caine & David Niven – & the stunt director of epic film ‘Zulu’ also in the family – meant a career in entertainment was a strong possibility. Kevin Fitzsimmons first discovered ‘the American songbook’ at the age of five, singing Pennies From Heaven accompanied by his father whose constant renditions of Gershwin, Porter and Berlin were to leave an irreversible impression. By his early twenties, he found himself in the company of and performing with other like minded aficionados and their profound knowledge and musicianship helped forward his studies. They also included the late American saxophonist Spike Robinson and John Critchinson (piano accompanist of the late Ronnie Scott at his eponymous Club).

A London born jazz singer, lyricist/songwriter & producer, he has sung everywhere from tiny well-worn jazz clubs to glittering occasions worldwide. Along the way enjoying sell out shows at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, one hour concert live on Jazz FM, TV appearances with his band on E4's Made In Chelsea, has entertained royalty twice, and is a favourite of many celebrities, TV & sports stars to sing at their private celebrations. His distinctive, powerful vocals are also in demand by luxe brands like Hermes, Louis Vuitton and others for campaigns/promotions in New York, Far East & London, and by global corporations and music publishers for voice-overs, marketing/media events and more. Recently his ‘Sinatra voice’ was chosen best to impersonate Frank Sinatra’s real voice for a TV advert with the Oscar-nominated Hollywood movie-star Naomi Watts.

A natural lyricist (& artist/cartoonist), he also writes songs in collaboration with musicians, most notably the Jools Holland saxophonist Derek Nash. He also stars in Big Band theatre show, ‘Sinatra Sequins & Swing – The Capitol Years Live!’ (based on Frank’s iconic years with Capitol Records: www.sinatrasequinsandswing.com) alongside Musical Director of the Ronnie Scotts Jazz Orchestra, Pete Long and his Big Band.

"Kevin's voice is an irresistible mix of Sinatra, Bennett & Buble, backed by a world class band" - Jazz FM
