Ben Cox and Jamie Safiruddin play tribute to...
Tony Bennett & Bill Evans
Two legendary albums
It seems impossible that these two giants of understated musical sophistication went into the studio with no idea of what they would record. Instead, over a three-day period in 1975, they plucked one definitive performance after another out of thin air to produce a nine-track album - called, with straightforward simplicity, The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album - that was bettered only by its solitary follow-up, the next year's Together Again. (BBC)
Bennett told Evans, "You don't bring your cronies and I won't bring mine," and the outcome of this intimate duet highlighted the sublime creative accompanist in Evans, and the deep jazz sensitivities of the vocal legend. (John Fodham - Guardian)
Tony Bennett was unaware at the time, recording these albums would be his supreme statement in the jazz field. His collaboration with Bill Evans, the jazz piano superstar of the ‘60s, who had already inspired a whole generation of younger players and disciples with his sensitive touch, unending lyricism, and rich harmonic palette, really helped define an entire era of how these songs are portrayed. (Concord)
This will be a two set concert featuring Ben Cox on vocals and Jamie Safiruddin on piano, and other members of the Ben Cox Band
The first set covering the original 1975 encounter The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album.
Following the interval, material from the 1976 album Together Again.
