releasing a string of albums on Blue Note in the 1970s, quickly finding an individual and soulful style.  She appeared as a guest artist on Stevie Wonder’s Songs In The Key Of Life album and has consistently been cited as one of the most influential flute players of her time, with her work extensively sampled by later artists.

The Deep MO (support 12th March)

 Opening for Humphrey on the 12th is bassist and singer Yolanda Charles and her group THE DEEP MO, an effortlessly funky performer whose credits include stints with Paul Weller, Carleen Anderson and Robbie Williams.  Delivering tight, driving soulful grooves, her six piece band features Robert Mitchell on keys, Scott Firth on guitar, Nigel Hancock on saxophones, Valerie Etienne on vocals and long-term playing and writing partner Miles Bould on drums. Michele Drees’ drumming takes in any number of influences, and while she is perfectly at home with jazz, funk, R&B and pop, she has displayed a fondness for Latin rhythms during her career.  Having played with the likes of k d lang, Seal and Susanne Vega, as well as an experimental five year stretch with drum and bass pioneers Badmarsh and Shri, she is able to tackle anything that comes her way, and as such audiences can expect something of a mixed, but perfectly honed bag for this performance.
