SOLD OUT - TRINITY COLLEGE OF MUSIC BIG BAND& PRESENTATION OF THE DANKWORTH AWARD FOR JAZZ COMPOSITION 2010 Wednesday 24th March
A very special evening to launch the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition, including premieres of new works for big band composed by some of the country’s finest young jazz talent, and performed by the Trinity College of Music Jazz Ensemble. Big Band music by other leading British composers such as Django Bates, Kenny Wheeler and Stan Sulzmann will also be featured, plus several of the great tunes from the classic Charles Mingus album "Ah Um".
This is a unique evening, held in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Musicians, the Wavendon Foundation, and Jazzorg, whose joint 2010 competition for original jazz compositions was judged by Nikki Iles, Tim Garland and Frank Griffith. Two £1,000 prizes will be presented, one for 9-piece and one for big band; you will hear the winning compositions played and recorded, the winners will receive their cheques, and a good time will be had by all !
The Trinity College Jazz Ensemble consists of some of the finest young jazz musicians in the UK. Like the National Youth Jazz Orchestra they have an explosive energy that literally shakes the rafters of this historic venue. This promises to be a memorable evening that will bring together many of the UK's leading jazz organisations...
