In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night hang.
Each night Monday to Saturday, after the main act, Ronnie Scott’s presents the Late Late Show, where some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session.
QUENTIN COLLINS BIOGRAPHY
"A Trumpeter whose style is a sizzling update of the Morgan/Hubbard approach." MOJO Magazine.
Brought up around the sounds of jazz by a music loving father, Quentin had seen many of the greats by a young age, including Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton & Dave Brubeck. This had a profound influence upon his decision to become a professional musician.
In the 15 years as a professional Quentin has established himself as one of the UK’s top Jazz/Commercial trumpeters, having worked with a plethora of internationally reknowned artists across many genres. These include Fred Wesley, Gregory Porter, Mark Ronson, Omar, Alicia Keys, Dennis Rollins and Mulatu Astatke.
In 2007 Quentin released his debut solo album "If Not Now, Then When?" on SunlightSquare Records to much critical acclaim. Jazzwise magazine called it an "Intensely impressive debut”.
MOJO magazine voted the record one of it's top ten jazz albums of 2007.
Quentin currently co-leads The QC/BA Quartet, a Hammond-organ quartet with tenor sax titan Brandon Allen.
The QC/BA Quartet released their debut album “What's It Gonna Be?” in May 2011 on Sunlightsquare Records to great critical acclaim. Jack Massarik in the Evening Standard wrote:
"This talented quartet get the full five stars, not only for performing brilliantly here but also for playing the type of jazz few can master - namely bright, tuneful neo-bop originals that swing from start to finish."
They undertook a hugely successful Jazz Services funded 35 date tour of the UK and Europe throughout the Spring 2012, at venues ranging from King's Place in London to Bravo Caffe in Bologna, which was entirely booked by both Quentin & Brandon.
Since 2011 Quentin has toured the world extensively with the Kyle Eastwood band. They have just recorded a new album, to be released worldwide on Harmonia Mundi as a follow-up to 2013's highly acclaimed release “The View From Here”. He is featured as a performer and composer on both these recordings.
Presently Quentin is hosting a twice monthly residency at the prestigious Ronnie Scott’s jazz Club with his current quartet which features Andrew McCormack on piano and Ernesto Simpson on drums. He will be releasing a new record during 2015 on Ubuntu Music with this line-up.
Quentin is also committed to education. He has been the brass teacher on the annual Dordogne Jazz Summer School since it's inception in 2001, as well as teaching regular combos at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance + masterclasses and workshops across the UK and beyond.
As Musical Director for Noemi Nuti, Quentin has co-produced her debut album “Nice To Meet You” which will be the first release on Ubuntu Music in march 2015. This has opened up a whole new direction for him and has led to Quentin now project managing the subsequent releases on this new and exciting label.
