"Peggy Meets Benny." That's what happened when Benny Goodman discovered Peggy Lee singing in an hotel right in his home town of Chicago. Peggy joined the Goodman Band in 1942.It was her most important move until
then, and the start ofher recording career.
Sheila Southern Has long been a fan of Peggy Lee, and while it is not her intention to imitate, her natural singing voice is not dissimilar. She is obviously in her element when performing the standards and jazzballads of the Lee
era. her ability to get the full meaning of a song across makes you feel that she is having a private conversation with you alone, her diction second to none.
Robert Famon the distinguished Canadian composer gave Sheila her first accolade when announcing her on B.B.C. Television as "The very best of British Vocal Talent".
Her career has been varied, singing with all types of Bands and Orchestras in many countries. Invited by the B.B.C. to represent Great Britain three times in European music festivals. Has played Cinderella in pantomime,
summers easonsT, V appearanceosn most of the top rated shows,A ustralia,H ong Kong, Indonesia, South Africa and the U.S.A, all places Sheila has worked. Her latest CD "Sheila Southern With Love" was with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sheila as the regulars ingerw ith the Don Lusher Big Band. Sheilac urrently runs a "Tribute to Peggy Lee and Benny Goodman " show. The Band provide an excellent tribute to Benny Goodman, with clarinet solos of his most famous tunes. Sheila is very proud of her band.
The Derek Cox Quartet are among the finest players in Europe and have worked with some of the World's biggest names.
