London Improvisers Orchestra feat Jason Yarde+ Matt Bourne & Pete Wareham: BRIT JAZZ FEST Tuesday 10th August
The London Improvisers Orchestra’s members are extraordinarily diverse. From studying with Nadia Boulanger to playing with The Fall, from pushing 80 to barely into their twenties, and hailing from all over the world, the LIO has certainly benefited from the role of London as a centre for free improvisation, regarded as “one of the secret gems of the London music calendar". The group features the avant-garde saxophone collosus Jason Yarde.
Performing opposite tonight are Pete Wareham and Matthew Bourne, who have teamed up for a brilliant new duo project - saxophone and piano playing beautifully dark and exciting tangos, blended together by atmospheric electronics and improvisation. The project’s name “Ugly Guys” is in tribute to the famous Argentinian singer Edmundo Rivero.
