Ronnie Scott’s has the pleasure in welcoming a true innovator for this spectacular three night residency – Jon Hendricks.  Offering a very different take on the art of jazz singing, Hendricks is credited with the invention of vocalese, a technique wherein the singer puts words to the instrumental lines of already existing songs that often results in a hugely impressive display of vocal control and dexterity.

Also regarded as one of the finest scat singers in jazz history, Hendricks composed the lyrical arrangements for the album Vocalese by jazz vocal group Manhattan Transfer, which went on to win seven Grammy Awards, including one for himself as ‘Best Singer’.

Perhaps more important however, is the fact that he is still regarded, at the age of 87, as one of the finest, most influential and most innovate singers ever in jazz, or indeed any other type of music - his appearance at Ronnie Scott’s is an unmissable opportunity to witness a master in action.

SUPPORT SAT 20th:
Tomorrow’s Warriors Biggish Band

Award-winning rising stars, Tomorrow’s Warriors Biggish Band make their live debut at Ronnie Scotts jazz club under the watchful eye of their tutor/mentor, Gary Crosby OBE. These fantastic young jazz musicians come to the club to celebrate their success in the 2010 Yamaha Jazz Experience Band Competition earlier this year, when they fended off bands from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and Chetham's School of Music, Manchester at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Hip, hot, yet totally cool, Tomorrow’s Warriors Biggish Band notch up yet another success for this influential outfit, extending the extraordinary legacy of the artist development programme established by Crosby almost 20 years ago. Fitting, indeed, that they should open for the legendary Jon Hendricks, regarded as one of the most influential and innovative vocalists ever.
