SUNDAY JAZZ LUNCH - MITCH WINEHOUSE + BRIAN DEE TRIO Sunday 23rd January
Mitch Winehouse’s live gigs show a real depth of musical knowledge and impeccable taste, stemming from his young days in the East End of London. "My father owned a barber shop on Commercial Street and my mother had a hairdressers at the back of it," he says. "All I remember since day one was music. Jazz, swing, lots of Sinatra."
"...his debut album is a likeable album of slick and sophisticated jazz swing numbers" "a long way ahead of similar throwback albums such as Westlife’s ‘Allow Us To Be Frank’ and ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ by Robbie Williams." "it comes as a pleasant surprise to find that he also does a mean Sinatra impersonation." "I just want to perform!"
Mitch’s debut album ‘Rush of Love’ is jazz, swing, crooning if you like; this is the Winehouse musical DNA. The music comes from a perfectly natural place, revealing the roots of his own, as well as his daughter's, musical inspiration.
He entertains audiences with a selection of classic jazz songs including Please Be Kind, How Insensitive and You Go To My Head. Alongside classic jazz standards, he joins a list of illustrious artists from Elton John to Matt Monro by performing songs written especially by Tony Hiller.
