Sunday Jazz Lunch - Alexander Stewart with The Alex Webb Quartet feat. Nathaniel Facey

Alex Webb (pno), Gary Crosby (bass), Andy Chapman (drs), Dave Runkel (trpt), Winston Rollins (trbne), Nat Facey (alto), Frank Griffith (tenor)

‘Stewart’s talent is undeniable … natural swing, agility and energy’ said Jazzwise recently. Mixing standards, recent gems and originals, at just 23 Stewart has carved out a niche as one of the most exciting vocal acts on the UK scene. His razor-sharp band is augmented by the incendiary saxophonist from award-winning group

Alexander Stewart is already creating a buzz as one of the most precociously talented vocalists of the new generation.  With a voice rooted in Connick and Sinatra – and with a touch of the Kurt Elling rasp – Stewart avoids being a nostalgia act by a judiciously off-beat choice of material and a decidedly contemporary energy level.

As well as clever re-arrangements of great standards, he translates pop songs into jazz and adds some originals, including songs by pianist Alex Webb. Stewart performs with Webb, acclaimed bassist Gary Crosby - recently made an OBE for services to jazz in the UK, and Andy Chapman on drums.

This talented twenty-two-year-old jazz singer glides effortlessly through his songs … and some terrific original material written by Alex Webb, his Musical Director. Anyone interested in a star-hopefully-in-the-making, should high-tail it to see him.’

- Cabaret Scenes magazine

The Observer

‘A singer to listen out for … astonishingly mature for his 23 years … a pretty auspicious beginning’.

The Metro

‘A cause for celebration … All Or Nothing At All doesn’t disappoint’.
