A tribute to jazz genius Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker – ALEX WEBB BAND
Line up: NATHANIEL FACEY (alto sax), with STEVE FISHWICK (trumpet) JO CALEB (guitar) SHANEY FORBES (drums) ALEX DAVIS (bass), ALEX WEBB (piano/MD). Special guest: vocalist VIMALA ROWE
Max Roach said, ‘Bird was like the sun, giving off the energy we drew from him. We’re still drawing on it.’
Written and arranged by Alex Webb, Charlie Parker On Dial focuses on just two years of Bird’s hectic life – the period he recorded with Ross Russell’s Dial label, producing classics such as Ornithology, Night in Tunisia, Relaxin’ at Camarillo, Scrapple From The Apple and Klacto-veeseds-tene – and revolutionising jazz in the process.
It features a band of top-notch musicians led by Nathaniel Facey (alto sax), with Steve Fishwick (trumpet) Jo Caleb (guitar) Shaney Forbes (drums) Alex Davis (bass) and Alex Webb (piano/MD). Making a special guest appearance is vocalist Vimala Rowe.
