Eliane Correa & La Evolución Septet is a high-energy Cuban ensemble consisting of some of the best Cuban and Latin musicians in the UK, fronted by renowned vocalist Yadira Ferrer (Holguín, Cuba). Directed by Latina powerhouse pianist and composer Eliane Correa, who has MD'd for the likes of Mayito Rivera and Maite Hontelé, La Evolución delivers a high-energy modern Timba (“Cuban salsa”) sound that is both sophisticated and authentic, with a set list consisting of a mix of original material, Timba-style reworks of world-famous hits, and Latin classics revisited with a young, modern and unique flavour.
La Evolución started out inspired by the modern Havana sound of large-format orchestras and soon found its own London-infused voice, inspired by UK jazz and soul, without losing touch with the powerful grooves that characterise the Cuban sound. La Evolución is the only UK-based Cuban ensemble which is both female-led and female-fronted; in 2019-2020, it sold out the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and Pizza Express Jazz Club, and headlined the Latin Stage at Glastonbury Festival, alongside an array of appearances across UK festivals. Their debut album, Signo de Fuego, is scheduled for Spring 2021 release.
