Eliane Correa & La Evolución is a fresh, high-energy 8-piece timba ("Cuban salsa") fusion orchestra which includes some of the best Cuban and Latin musicians in the UK, playing a selection of original material and Cuban-style covers of world-famous hits.
Directed by Latina powerhouse pianist Eliane Correa who has MD'd for the likes of Mayito Rivera and Maite Hontelé and written for Mixael Cabrera among others, La Evolución delivers a high-energy modern Latin/Cuban fusion sound that is both sophisticated and authentic. On this occasion, the 8tet is fronted by renowned Cuban vocalist Dunia Correa from Havana, Cuba, plus special guests. Eli & La Evolución started out inspired by the modern Havana sound of large-format ensembles such as Los Van Van and Havana d'Primera and soon found its own London-infused voice, featuring rich, globally minded arrangements over Cuba's powerful and distinctive grooves. La Evolución is the only UK-based Cuban music ensemble which is both female-led and female-fronted; in 2019-2021, it has sold out the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club twice and Pizza Express Jazz Club, and headlined the Latin Stage at Glastonbury Festival, alongside an array of appearances across UK festivals. Their debut album, Signo de Fuego, is scheduled for late 2021 release.
