'Mandarin Dreams ft. Silentjay, Kuzich, Dufresne, Alien, Lori & Horatio Luna'
Two very special late show takeover's by Melbourne’s Mandarin Dreams. An art-based music collective, they perform across a myriad of instruments and featuring members of Hiatus Kaiyote, Swooping Duck alongside Silent Jay and Jace XL.
Mandarin Dreams is a collective comprised of musicians, artists & thinkers established in Ascot Vale, Melbourne. Predominantly focused on live music with a strong emphasis on collaboration, the group aspires to champion misrepresented and unheard voices within Melbourne’s live music community. Their music contextualises a mutual penchant for jazz, soul and electronic music through the lens of their upbringing in a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment, paying tribute to forelaying subcultures that came before them, such as spiritual jazz, broken beat, hip hop, P-Funk and Latin American music. Each member of Mandarin Dreams adds a unique two cents to the crew’s unmistakable sound, cooperatively functioning as a band-shaped vehicle that brings each members compositions and creative vision to life. Projects that sit inside the circle include Silentjay, Kuzich, Alien, Horatio Luna, Dufresne, Clever Austin, Raw Humps, Acidslop and Fosse, with more emerging as each member’s ideas come to fruition.
Their projects have been invited to support the likes of Lonnie Liston Smith, Gilles Peterson, Peven Everett, Flying Lotus, Mndsgn, Joyce Wrice, Thundercat, Shabazz Palaces, Tame Impala, Grace Jones, Noname, Lauryn Hill, Anderson Paak, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings & BADBADNOTGOOD, in some of Australia’s most impressive venues such as Sydney Opera House, The Forum, The Palais, Festival Hall & Enmore Theatre. Their recorded works are featured on a number of upcoming compilations for Brownswood Recordings, Wondercore Island & Plug Seven, and appears on labels such as Jakarta (GER), La Sape (AUS), Moonshoe Records (AUS), Rhythm Section (UK) & Touching Bass (UK), as well as their in house label, Mandarin Dreams Records.
2019 will see the faces of Mandarin Dreams facilitate a number of new releases, perform at Golden Plains (among a number of Australian festivals) and embark on their first collective journey to Europe, spreading their sound and flavour around the world.
