Bassist Tim Thornton is a regular performer on the British jazz scene and graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire. Tim won the 2013 British Jazz Award in the rising star category after releasing and touring his debut album ‘New Kid’. He is a regular member of the Ronnie Scott's Quintet led by Ronnie Scott's artistic director James Pearson and a regular host of the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scott's with his Quartet featuring Grant Windsor, James Gardiner-Bateman and Chris Draper.

In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night hang.
TIM THORNTON
Bassist Tim Thornton is a regular performer on the British jazz scene and graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire. He comes from a very musical background with his parents Neal Thornton (pianist/composer) and Sally Burgess (Mezzo Soprano/Director) influencing his early interest in the music world. Tim won the 2013 British Jazz Award in the rising star category after releasing and touring his debut album ‘New Kid’ (SEHSO05). His new album "The Feel Good Place" is released soon on Jellymould Records featuring James Gardiner-Bateman, Grant Windsor and Chris Draper.
He is a regular host of the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scott's with his Quartet featuring Grant Windsor, James Gardiner-Bateman and Chris Draper and a regular member of the Ronnie Scott's Allstars lead by James Pearson. Tim also performs and has recorded with many different groups including the Steve Fishwick Quintet, Gilad Atzmon Quartet, Brandon Allen Quartet, Rob Barron Trio/Quartet, Jay Phelps Quartet/Sextet/Big Band, Dave O’Higgins Quartet, Ivo Neame Quintet, James Torme Quintet, Sian Evans Group, Heidi Vogel Quartet, Noemi Nuti Quintet (UK/Italy), Joe Pisto Quartet (Italy), and the Julian Bliss Septet .
Tim has previously worked with Stan Sulzmann, Logan Richardson, Eric Alexander, Jason Rebello, Pee-Wee Ellis, Will Vinson, Jim Mullen, Soweto Kinch, Guy Barker, Sir Willard White, Sian Evans (Kosheen), James Torme, Nigel Hitchcock, Alex Garnett, Gilad Atzmon, Tina May, Tim Lapthorn, Anita Wardell, Georgia Mancio, Stan Tracey, Liam Noble, Steve Brown, Tom Cawley, Ernesto Simpson, Jim Hart, Ross Stanley, Nick Smart, and Kit Downes to name a few.
Tim performs at many venues internationally but can most likely be found playing around London at venues such as Ronnie Scott's, Pizza Express Jazz Club, or the 606 Club.
