Live music returns with a passion to the intimate and plush surroundings of our upstairs bar for our Monday to Thursday programme. Here is a rare opportunity to experience some of the best singers and instrumentalists on the London scene:  from popular New Orleans fused singer/pianists such as TJ Johnson on Monday, through ‘jazz ‘n samba’ sets from leading vocalists such as Georgia Mancino and Luna Cohen on Tuesdays, ebullient trumpeter Andy Davies with guest accompanists on Wednesdays plus mouthwatering guitar duos featuring the likes of Jim Mullen and Ant Law on Thursdays. Club DJ Mike Vitti and friends will be spinning soul, funk and jazz vinyl on Fridays and Saturdays.

22 July  – NICK COSTLEY WHITE guitar & HANNES RIEPLER guitar

Nick Costley White whose early influences were the laid-back swing of classic jazz guitarists such as Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell but has now forged forward with own semi-acoustic contemporary approach. Hannes Riepler grew up in Austria, studied jazz guitar in Amsterdam and moved to London in 2006, where he dived into the vibrant scene as an energetic and inventive guitar player. Since hosting the renowned Vortex Downstairs Jazz Night jam session, he has become a mover and shaker of jazz in London himself. 

29 July  – NIGEL PRICE guitar & GIORGIO SERCI guitar

Over a career spanning more than 25 years, award winning jazz guitarist Nigel Price has become widely acknowledged as one of the hardest working musicians in the business.

Musically, his blend of flowing bebop lines, deep blues sensibility and his mastery of chording continue to delight audiences and fellow musicians alike. His career highlights include a support show for Gladys Knight at The Royal Albert Hall and an appearance on Van Morrison’s 2016 album ‘Keep Me Singing’. Giorgio Serci is an award winner guitarist, composer, arranger and lecturer. He has recorded, performed and supported Jools Holland, Shirley Bassey, Basia, David Garrett, Julian Lloyd Webber, Kenny Wheeler, Dr John, Martin Taylor, Sylvain Luc, Nigel Kennedy, Andy Sheppard, Paul Booth, Ryan Quigley, Bill Bruford, Paolo Fresu, Harvie S, CBS Orchestra, BBC concert Orchestra and the Frankfurt Philharmonie.

5 August – MARCUS BONFANTI guitar & LAURENCE CORNS guitar

Drawing on influences from the American Folk, Blues and Jazz scene of the early 20th century Marcus Bonfanti & Laurence Corns deliver an authentic take on the songs and guitar styles of that era. Marcus Bonfanti is a twice winner of best Acoustic Performer at The British Blues Awards and since 2014 he has fronted legendary Rock n Roll Band Ten Years After. Marcus is also the front man of The Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion now into the twelfth year of their residency at the club. Laurence Corns’ vast knowledge of guitar styles from across the world has lead him to work with many artists of differing genres from Madeline Peyroux to Stella Chiweshe as well as being the musical director of the critically acclaimed National Theatre production Fela! Be prepared to be taken on a musical road trip across The United States that you won’t forget. 

12 August  – DEIRDRE CARTWRIGHT guitar & ALISON RAYNER bass

Deirdre Cartwright is a London based guitarist and composer who first became well known in the 1980s for presenting the BBC TV’s ground breaking series 'Rockschool' and for playing in the Afro Latin Jazz group 'The Guest Stars'. They recorded three albums and toured in 17 countries. She has recorded five albums with her own Deirdre Cartwright Group, played with legendary guitarist Tal Farlow, studied in America with Mick Goodrick, toured with the Jamaican composer Marjorie Whylie, and presented on BBC Radio 3. She founded Blow the Fuse with Alison Rayner in 1989 and they won Services to Jazz last year at the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Awards.  “If there is a more complete guitarist in contemporary music than Deirdre Cartwright - I'd like to know who it is” Dave Gelly The Observer.  


Alison Rayner double bass, also played with US jazz guitar legend Tal Farlow, New York jazz poet Jayne Cortez and drummer Denardo Coleman, Ian Shaw and John Etheridge. In the 80s she spent five years with the aforementioned ‘The Guest Stars ‘ In 2012, the ARQ, Alison Rayner Quintet was formed. ‘A big, beautiful bass sound that comes from the heart. 19 August – CORNELIUS CORKERY guitar  & SOL GRIMSHAW guitar

Cornelius Corkery is a self-taught guitarist whose style is heavily rooted in the tradition of the great Django Reinhardt, enriched with his own unique musical innovations. Cornelius has performed at festivals across the UK and abroad including Burton Agnes Jazz Festival and Cork Jazz Festival. His new album of original compositions is soon to be released on Pavement Jazz Records. Look out for his podcast ‘Gypsy Jazz Hangouts’.
Sol Grimshaw is one of the rising guitar talents in the UK today. Still only 20 years old, he began studying at The Purcell School of Music aged 14, and is currently half way through his degree course at guildhall.  Sol blends a world of exotic influences in his guitar playing, and has a seemingly inexhaustible imagination for improvisation. One to watch for the future!

26 August – CHRIS COBBSON guitar & DOMINIC GRANT guitar

Most recently, performing at the club with the world famous African group, ‘Osibisa’, stints with Courtney Pine and first-call player for many UK-based bands, Chris Cobbson with fellow guitarist, Dominic Grant will be playing a mix of swing standards, bossa novas, their twist on popular songs and some Caribbean and African music. Dominic Grant has worked extensively on the West Coast of America, particularly in Los Angeles and Las Vegas with various bands playing variety of musical styles Jazz, Latin, Pop. He toured for two years with the Gary Puckett Band,  garnered live work with famous jazz musicians: Albert Tootie Heath, Bill Henderson, Herman Riley and Phil Upchurch. Since returning to Europe in the late 90s, he has performed duos with Eduardo Niebla, Martin Byatt, Kathy Wilson, Nina Ferro, Victoria Newton, Kelly Dickson and Karen Lane.

2 September - JIM MULLEN guitar & NIGEL PRICE guitar

Jim Mullen is a living legend whose instantly recognisable sound has graced countless recordings. His early gigging days were spent with the likes of Average White Band and Kokomo. The wider public know him from his 70s jazz-funk days with the Morrissey—Mullen Band and he has been first choice guitarist with visiting US stars such as Jimmy Smith, Mose Allison and Gene Harris. In 2014, he featured prominently on the Citrus Sun album, 'People of Tomorrow', produced by Incognito co-founder, Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick.

9 September - SIMON GOLDING guitar & RYAN WILLIAMS guitar

Berklee trained Simon Golding is bringing some fusion to the upstairs@ronnies with all-rounder, Horne Section interloper and Then Jerico guitarist Ryan Williams. Ryan has performed with artists from Gerard Prescencer to Hans Koller to his own ‘Flashmob’. Contemporary jazz influences will be heard from 70s rock, jazz and fusion artists such as Wayne Krantz, Ben Monder, Brad Shepik, John Scofield, Scott Henderson and Mike Stern.  Expect to hear modern standard from the likes of Vulfpeck to Pat Metheny to Jeff Beck as well as Simon’s own fusion trio group Rough Ramblers and some original music from Ryan.

Emily Roberts has played at some of the most prestigious music venues across the UK: the O2 Sheperd's Bush Empire, the O2 Academy Oxford, the Duke of York's Theatre in the West End and the Royal Festival Hall for various commercial bands and artists. She also leads her own eclectic jazz ensemble influenced by Emily Remler, John Scofield and the Brecker Brothers. Originally from Cheshire, she graduated in 2020 from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she is now completing the Guildhall Artists Fellowship programme and was recently a semi-finalist of BBC Young Jazz Musician 2020.

23 September - DOMINIC ASHWORTH guitar & COLIN OXLEY guitar

Dominic Ashworth studied guitar at the University of Toronto, Canada, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is an active freelance player who has worked with Carol Kidd, Jacqui Dankworth, Dave Cliff and Janette Mason. Dominic is also a composer, and has written and recorded many original works for radio and television and performs with original guitar trio Digital Moves. He has performed with groups such as Julian Stringle’s Pathfinder, the Mick Foster Group, Digby Fairweather’s Half Dozen and Michael Garrick’s Big Band.

Colin Oxley, widely considered a ‘first-call’ guitarist for swinging straight-ahead jazz ensembles, has, as a long-standing member of Stacey Kent's group, recorded several albums as well as touring extensively, He has also performed with American legends, Scott Hamilton, Harry Allen, Hod O'Brien, John Bunch, Houston Person, Warren Vache, Jeff Hamilton and Bob Dorough, as well as many of Britain's top players. In the year 2000, Colin was voted Jazz Musician of the Year by the Worshipful Company of Musicians. 

30 September - CARL ORR guitar & NICOLAS MEIER guitar

Guitarist/composer Carl Orr has been a professional musician since 1980, and has performed and recorded with some of the finest musicians on the planet including Billy Cobham, George Duke, Eric Bibb, Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker, Bennie Maupin, Don Grusin, Lisa Moore and The Philharmonia Orchestra and has backed many pop artists including Roisin Murphy, Marcia Hines, Doug Parkinson, Lulu and Anastacia. He was guitarist on the 2018 UK tour of Sting’s “The Last Ship” and has played in the pit orchestras of “Thriller Live” and “Priscilla, Queen of The Desert” in London’s West End.

UK-based guitarist Nicolas Meier has carved a reputation out as one of the world's most original and uniquely talented guitarists. Drawing from a love of Turkish, Eastern & Middle Eastern music, Flamenco, Tango and more -- all mixed with jazz -- Meier's versatility and musical fluency extends well beyond that, even. (... so much so, that his considerable talents drew the attention of rock guitar legend, Jeff Beck, who made Nicolas a mainstay in The Jeff Beck Group -- carrying him on two world tours during the course of the last several years.)
