Joe Chambers Quintet featuring Andrés Vial

Joe Chambers is an acclaimed drummer, vibraphonist and composer who has worked with many influential jazz figures.  He has performed and recorded with Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Joe Henderson, Donald Byrd, Archie Shepp, Bobby Hutcherson and many more.

As a sideman and leader, Chambers has recorded more than 500 albums. Chambers’ credits include Shorter’s “Adam’s Apple”, “Etcetera” and “Schizophrenia”, Hubbard’s “Breaking Point”, Henderson’s “Mode for Joe”, Hutcherson’s “Components”, Tyner’s “Tender Moments”, Corea’s “Tone for Joan’s Bones”, Mingus’ “Like A Bird”, Shepp’s “New Thing at Newport” plus others.

Chambers’ compositions have been widely performed and have been recorded by Hutcherson, Hubbard, and Max Roach’s M’Boom percussion group. He has also contributed to soundtracks for several Spike Lee films including “Mo’Better Blues”. His “Moving Pictures Orchestra Live” album was nominated for a Grammy in 2013.

Chambers’ lengthy association with Blue Note Records began in 1964 and continues to this day. In 2023 released Chambers’ album “Dance Kobina”, an exploration of the deep musical connection between jazz, Latin and African music. Chambers will lead the group and feature Canadian pianist Andrés Vial and alto saxophonist Jonathan Orland.
