Monsieur MÂLÂ

The quintet are capable of telling stories by means of instrumental music, a balance of writing and improvisation, charisma and interaction, ruckus and tranquility but also groove, jubilation, elevation. 'We are all on the same quest for plenitude.'

The music includes a celebratory samba-fusion tribute to Gilberto Gil, ‘Fly Fly’, the anthemic, syncopated-soul cut ‘All My Life’, and transcendent, proverbial exploration ‘Nguinya Mulema’. The group have created intrigue around their experimental, free-flowing sound, and crafted an album channeling a breadth of emotions, combining virtuosic musicianship with unconventional instrumentation to create a rich tapestry of sounds reflecting cosmopolitan Paris.

Hailing from Paris, Monsieur MÂLÂ is a combo made of 5 sought-after musicians with their own distinctive identities.  Consisting of Swaéli Mbappé on bass (China Moses), Yoann Danier on drums (Mayra Andrade) , Nicholas Vella on keys (Mayra Andrade), Balthazar Naturel on saxophone and Robin Antunes on violin and mandolin, the group transcend the borders between jazz, pop, world and urban music.

Their music has been championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 6 and Worldwide FM, as well as finding support across Jazz FM and BBC Introducing.

The five musicians update the fusion tradition for the 21st century...the music is carefully crafted, combining subtlety and colour with the band’s trademark rhythmic drive and irresistible groove power.
