Now in its third year, the Ronnie Scott’s International Piano Trio Festival has become an established part of the international jazz calendar. With a programme of trios from around the world, from jazz legends to rising stars, it continues to celebrate the piano trio both as a driving force in jazz innovation and keeper of the jazz tradition. The festival represents the depth and breadth of the piano scene from modern mavericks and mainstream stars, to freewheeling trailblazers, all presented in a series of dynamic double-bill pairings and a special set of Late Late Show’s.
This year’s festival is truly international in it’s scope too; together, Polish jazz legend Leszek Możdżer , Swedish Bassist Lars Danielsson and Israeli percussionist Zohar Fresco explore classically influenced contemporary repertoire while American mainstream great Cyrus Chestnut
(one of the stars of the inaugural festival in 2014) appears with bassist Buster Williams and drummer Lenny White, demonstrating that there is plenty of life in the great tradition.
Caribbean legend Michel Camilo leads his red-hot Trio Latino through Latin-jazz and beyond, while Italian jazz great Enrico Pieranunzi demonstrates why he is one of the rising stars of European jazz. NYC-meets-Israel “cinematic” piano trio, Shalosh, make their UK debut on the back of a growing international reputation
based around their genre-bending performances.
Closer to home, superlatively gifted pianist Nikki Yeoh makes a rare appearance exploring her own deeply nuanced trio music while young-master Robert Mitchell explores his unique rhythmically compelling music. Rising-star Sam Leak demonstrates why there is a growing buzz around the young London-based composer / pianist and our very own mainstream maestro - and leader of the Ronnie Scott All-Stars - James Pearson proves he can swing with the very best. The Ronnie Scott’s legendary Late Late show keep things smouldering to the wee hours with diverse sessions from some of the UK’s best piano trios.
