SUNDAY JAZZ LUNCH: Paul Holgate's Sinatra Sextet

Booking now closed, a few tickets still left on the door.

This marvellous show pays homage to Frank Sinatra's world tour line-up of 1962, which included Sinatra's home team of favoured musicians, that played dates in capital cities across the globe including London (Royal Festival Hall) and Paris (Lido) from where the "Live in Paris" recordings were taken.

This is a treat for Sinatra connoisseurs with Paul Holgate firmly at the helm and a band featuring many well-known names from the jazz establishment including: Anthony Kerr (vibes), Paul Jones (alto sax/clarinet/flute), Mitch Dalton (guitar), Toby Cruse (piano), Dave Olney (bass) and Elliott Henshaw (drums).

This is one not to be missed: Sunday Lunch Sinatra - what more could you ask for!

The Performance
The show features the original instrumentation and arrangements from the tour, specifically the Lido, Paris, and the Royal Festival Hall, London, featuring vibes and alto sax up front plus a smoking rhythm section as per the '59 tour of Australia with Red Norvo. If ever there was Frank's jazz gig, this was it and it was a unique backing for Sinatra and never repeated. Neil Hefti provided the arrangements for the original tour and these were bedded in over 30 dates. 1962 was possibly the pinnacle of Sinatra's career with his voice at its peak and him a man on top of the world. The sets are packed to the gills with a host of well-known classic tunes such as "Day In, Day Out", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Come Fly With Me", "I Get A Kick Out Of You" as you would expect, plus a raft of rare surprises from "The Moon Is Yellow", "The Road To Mandalay" and exquisite versions of "The Second Time Around", "My Funny Valentine", "Autumn Leaves" and "Night and Day", most of which have never been heard live in this format until now.

David Jacobs, presenter of the original Royal Festival Hall concert, very kindly recorded an introduction which sets the scene of the show.

Paul Holgate
Paul is one of the UK's most passionate defenders and possibly "the" definitive interpreter of the real Sinatra sound working today. Whilst in great demand on the private and corporate scene, he has largely remained under the circuit radar whilst learning his stagecraft and honing the skills to capture the subtle timing of phrase and nuance as well as the raw power and energy that made Sinatra's performances so captivating during the late '50s/early '60s period. Paul uses his remarkable physical likeness to the young "skinny kid" Sinatra (Paul was used as a Frank Sinatra body double for a key holographic feature at Simon Cowell's 50th birthday party) to its full extent and immerses himself into Frank's persona for the performance. With the musicality at its heart, Paul delivers a self-effacing, engaging performance born from thousands of live performances laced with a good dose of tongue-in-cheek dry wit and a sense of fun. Paul has been a professional vocalist and songwriter for over 20 years but, since 2002 when he caught the Sinatra bug, has dedicated his professional career working on "the Sinatra thing"! Paul is in demand all over the world for his Sinatra interpretation and has performed at many far-flung venues in Europe, Dubai and even performing a second year at the Singapore Grand Prix plus other venues closer to home such as Pizza On The Park and The Music Room, Maidstone. It is Sinatra's unique sound that makes the legacy of his work stand the test of time and with Francis Albert sadly gone, it is up to the next generation to keep the music in the live domain. Through accurate live performances of Sinatra's music using authentic voicing, Paul hopes to keep it alive for the old and introduce it to the young.
