A newcomer to the British jazz scene, Gabriel Latchin is fast becoming recognised as one of the country's leading pianists. His hard-swinging, adventurous approach often draws comparisons to his many influences, including Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and Phineas Newborn. Above all, he plays music that feels good, for people, not just musicians. As the master Art Blakey put it, "We are here to have a ball".

In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night hang.

Each night Monday to Saturday, after the main act, Ronnie Scott’s presents the Late Late Show, where some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session.

GABRIEL LATCHIN

A newcomer to the British jazz scene, Gabriel Latchin is fast becoming recognised as one of the country’s leading pianists. His hard-swinging, adventurous approach often draws comparisons to his many influences, including Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and Phineas Newborn.

In addition to writing for and leading his own trio, Gabriel is constantly in demand as a side man. Most recently, he performed with virtuoso bassist Christian McBride and opera star Renée Fleming at Wigmore Hall last December. “Polished” said The Times, “Flawless” said London Jazz News.

He has also worked with Ronnie Cuber, former Jazz Messenger Jean Toussaint, Dick Pearce, Grant Stewart, Alex Garnett, The London Jazz Orchestra and The Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He has performed at concert halls, clubs and festivals around the UK and Europe, including The Barbican, The Queen’s Hall, The London Jazz Festival and The Jazz Bar.

Gabriel has graduated with first class degrees from both Edinburgh University and the Guildhall School of Music and has also studied with world leading pianists Aaron Goldberg, Peter Martin and David Berkman.

2017 sees the launch of his debut trio album Introducing Gabriel Latchin featuring his own compositions alongside well known jazz standards.

“Fabulous” - Renée Fleming

“Wonderful playing” - Christian McBride
