Laura Jurd and Elliot Galvin are two of the leading lights on the UK jazz scene and tonight is a great opportunity to see them both at the helm of their individual projects as well as playing together in Jurd’s Dinosaur.
Nominated for the 2017 Mercury Prize for their critically acclaimed debut album 'Together, As One', Dinosaur are back in action with some immensely colourful, new music - full of imagination and enticingly wonderful surprises. Led by BBC New Generation Artist 2015-17, trumpeter Laura Jurd, their second album 'Wonder Trail' (to be released summer 2018) sees the band further their exploration into the world of 'synth-pop meets jazz band' as they present a journey of mesmerising new compositions. Expect folk-infused grooves and glistening melodies - all tied together by a love for extemporisation and improvisation.
Dinosaur is: Laura Jurd - trumpet/synth, Elliot Galvin - keyboards, Conor Chaplin - electric bass, Corrie Dick - drums
Led by composer/pianist Elliot Galvin, The Influencing Machine is a sonic reaction to the human mind, technology and the post-truth age. Analogue synthesis and electric sounds orbit the acoustic world of piano, bass and drums as the ensemble present some exhilarating new music. One of the rising stars of UK jazz, Elliot is a maverick musician with a magpie-like ability to blend a disparate world of influences.
‘He reminds me of the young Django Bates, and the impression Django made on me in the 1980s – great improv chops, strong character as a player and a composer, evident love of the jazz tradition without wanting to repeat the past, very English sense of humour. He’s the kind of artist you always want to stay tuned in to, because you know he’s going to keep on coming up with surprises.’ JOHN FORDHAM (GUARDIAN)
ELLIOT GALVIN piano, synthesizer, toys, TOM McCREDIE double bass, guitar, CORRIE DICK drums, percussion
