Joe started playing the Electric Bass at the age of 12 where he was trained and mentored by the great Herbie Flowers of whom has been the bass player on landmark records with Davie Bowie and Mark Bolan. Joe spent the first 5 years of his playing under the eye of Herbie, giving him great insight in to the wide number of playing styles. Though Herbie’s teaching, Joe joined the youth music programme and was granted a scholarship at the Dartington International Summer School where he played a key role as the bass player in a group of very fine musicians.
Joe was offered an unconditional place at the Academy of Contemporary Music and completed the 4 year course followed by a move to London.
Joe is currently a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) and has appeared with the BBC Big Band. Performances include Ronnie Scotts, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Pizza Express, Sage Gateshead, to name a few.
Joe Downard is now a successful Electric and Upright Bass player based in London and the South of England. With his wide range of playing abilities, Joe is able to strive in the music scene playing Jazz, Blues, Country, Soul and Hip-Hop . Joe is a very accomplished live player and also has extensive experience in many high end studios around England as a session bass player.
Will Barry is a 25-year-old pianist, drummer and percussionist from London who recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music. He has performed as part of numerous projects internationally, most prominently with Phronesis bassist Jasper Høiby’s group ‘Fellow Creatures’ in Istanbul, Germany, Denmark, Holland and also extensively in the UK. Whilst living in Spain, Will appeared alongside Mario Rossy, Madison McFerrin and Perico Sambeat as well as Cuban musicians Julio Montalvo, Yoel Paez and Issac Delgado Jr, performing in Barcelona, Alicante and Madrid and recording for students at Berklee College of Music in Valencia. Chucho Valdés (Irakere) described his playing as "sensitive and fluid - a beautiful sound”.
Shane Forbes is one of the most requested drummers in UK. He has won the Jazz Radio Station price (by Yamaha) as best talented musician. Since three years he is a member of "Empirical", top band in Europe, with whom he won the North Sea Jazz Festival Prize as best new band in 2007. They are recording for Courtney Pine's Destin-E Records. Yet so young , he has collaborated with some of the main jazz musicians of the UK jazz scene. Some of them are: Jean Toussaint, Billy Jenkins, Claire Martin, Robert Mitchell, Mike Carr, Soweto Kinch. Shane Forbes is one of the most requested drummer in UK. In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolestlate night hang.
Each night Monday to Saturday, after the main act, RonnieScott’s presents the Late Late Show, where some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session.
