ABOUT TIM THORNTON

Bassist Tim Thornton is a regular performer on the British jazz scene and graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire. He won the 2013 British Jazz Award in the rising star category after releasing and touring his debut album ‘New Kid’. His new album "The Feel Good Place" is released on Jellymould Records. In 2017 he was awarded Honorary Membership of Birmingham Conservatoire in recognition of his achievements in the world of music and was a finalist at the Worshipful company of musicians young jazz musician of the year award.

He toured the USA in 2015, 2018 and again in 2019 with world renowned clarinet virtuoso Julian Bliss and toured the UK in 2016 in support of legendary guitairst George Benson, performing at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2017 he performed again at the Royal Albert Hall at the Proms with Clare Teal and her double big band. 

Tim has previously worked with Seamus Blake, Hiromi, Stan Sulzmann, Logan Richardson, Eric Alexander, Jason Rebello, Pee-Wee Ellis, Will Vinson, Jim Mullen, Soweto Kinch, Guy Barker, Sir Willard White, James Torme, Nigel Hitchcock, Alex Garnett, Gilad Atzmon, and Kit Downes to name a few.

Tim performs at many venues and festivals internationally and in the UK including Holders Festival (Barbados), Dizzy's Club (NYC), Bermuda Festival, Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury Festival, Barbican, Mineapolis Orchestra Hall, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Duc Des Lombards (Paris), Porgy and Bess (Vienna), Ronnie Scott's and Bennet's Lane Jazz Club (Melbourne)

Each night Monday to Saturday, after the main act, Ronnie Scott’s presents the Late Late Show, where some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session.

In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night hang.
