ZiroBop is a quartet led by Italian drummer Enzo Zirilli, whose influences musicians as diverse as John Coltrane, The Beatles, Miles, Mingus, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Art Blakey, Simon & Garfunkel, Joao Gilberto , Jobim, Frank Zappa, James Taylor. This band, currently very active on the Italian jazz scene, performs music written by each of the band members as well as quirky and ‘broken’ arrangements of jazz standards and pieces by Italian musicians such as Pino Daniele. The quartet has released two albums, ZiroBop (2015) and Ten to Late! (2018).Tonight they “spotlight” the compositions and influences of the game changing saxophonist Ornette Coleman.

 Randolph Denard Ornette Coleman was an American saxophonist, violinist, trumpeter, and composer. In the 1959 his groundbreaking album, “The shape of jazz to come” was to  became legendary and hugely influential on the future of the art form.Coleman was one of the founders of free jazz, a term he invented for his album Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation. His "Broadway Blues" has become a standard and has been cited as an important work in free jazz. His album Sound Grammar received the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for music.

From Monday to Saturday and following the main act, Ronnie Scott’s presents UK’s finest talents in the Late Late Show. A late night ‘blowing session’ where invited guests and musical celebrities such as Stevie Wonder, Esperanza Spalding, Marcus Miller, Robert Glasper, Lady Gaga, Christian Scott etc who happen to be in town are showcased – you never know who might drop by! Doors 11pm (weekdays) & 1am (weekends).

FRIDAY - SATURDAY 1am-3am

£10 in advance (Mon-Thurs), £12 on the door, £6 Students/MU (with valid card), FREE entry to club members and main show ticket holders
  
In 1959, saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the door to a small basement club in London’s west end where local musicians could jam. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs attracting packed houses and the biggest names in jazz and popular music and Ronnie Scott’s welcoming, stylish setting is also home to London’s coolest late night
