Beware of the Bear is the brainchild of multi-award winning UK saxophonist Phil Meadows. Recognised as one of the most distinctive, creative and talented musicians in Europe; his music is inspired by global sounds combining jazz elements with classical, hip-hop, electronica, contemporary music and more. With the world divided Beware of the Bear highlight the importance of peace between people, respect for each other and brings you a performance of unity and positivity, highlighting important issues whilst celebrating the beauty of human kind.
The band name pays tribute to the great Brown Bear, an animal often featured in children’s tales as a friend and companion but in reality a deadly beast of nature with a killer instinct. Beware of the Bear draw direct comparison to key public and political figures, stating that; not everybody who's warm and cuddly are the way they appear to be!
Beware of the Bear have already toured the UK twice (in Autumn 17 and Spring 18) under the Phil Meadows Project and tonight’s Late, Late Show celebrates the launch of their new name, featuring music from their unreleased debut album with live, interactive electronics built by Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke/Matthew Herbert) and Nick Tyson (Gentleman’s Dub Club/XOA).
As the gig takes flight you’ll be transported through Meadows’ stories by soaring melodies, atmospheric soundscapes and head-nodding grooves with the bands new sound tipping influence towards GoGo Penguin, Portico Quartet, Donny McCaslin, Bill Laurance and more.
