Balimaya Project was formed in 2019 by djembé player Yahael Camara Onono. Based in London, this ten-piece of very well known and celebrated musicians has come together to create a super-group. The band combines the traditional repertoire and influences of the Mandé peoples from Mali, Senegal and the Ivory Coast, with jazz fusion to create an eclectic and exciting style of music that is soul-stirring and steeped in folklore. Balimaya Project was born with the aim to portray Yahael’s heritage and identity through the medium of music. The band members and the influences they each bring to the project represent the link between West Africa and the diaspora.

After a sold out debut show at Jazz re:freshed not too long ago, they are going to be bringing West Africa to the heart of Central London with the full 12 piece band !
