In this new concert ‘A Man and his Blues’ TJ and his Band will explore the Songs and life’s of his favorite blues singers Jimmy Witherspoon, born Arkansas 1920 U.S.A and known as The Jazz Mans Blues singer! Jimmy had an edgy robust blues voice yet at times could be highly musical sound soft like velvet. His many collaborations were far reaching and diverse, they included tours, concerts and recordings with jazz artists such as Jay McShann, Ben Webster, Roy Eldridge, Robben Ford and the UK’s very own Dick Morrissey. Big Joe Turner from Kansas City Born 1911 known as a Blues Shouter sang with Count Basie and became famous in the fifties with hits like Shake Rattle and Roll. Joe Williams born 1918 Georgia U.S.A also spent many years with Basie and was known for the wonderful Blues hit Every Day I have the Blues, he was also a fine ballad singer.
TJ Johnson is widely considered to be one of the UK’s most charismatic highly revered jazz and blues singers. He is also a hot piano player, drummer and a respected bandleader. TJ and his band have toured extensively both in the UK and over sea’s for thirty years or more. At this concert you can expect a program of Hot Jump Blues, Stomping Swing and poignant soulful ballads.
