Dave O'Brien has always had an itching desire to explore the unfamiliar and likes to invite audiences and band-mates to join the quest. In demand as a pianist, double bassist, bass guitarist, he has spent most of the last two decades working in a huge variety of settings - jazz (Alex Curtis Quartet) , classical (Aurora Orchestra), M-base (F-IRE collective), progressive soul (Shadow Writing), swing (Man Overboard Quintet), rock (Thidius), Cuban, Brazilian and various fusions.
Tonight, however, he will be leading a new band of his own, which includes the six-string bass phenomenon Kevin Glasgow (Asaf Sirkis, Joe Locke, Preston-Glasgow-Lowe) and on the drum chair the amazing Gaspar Sena (Maria Chiara Agiro).
The set will include some brand new music, as well as re-workings from his old Peter-Whittingham-Award-winning fusion band Porpoise Corpus, and classics by Duke Ellington, Chick Corea and the Punch Brothers.
