This 18-piece contemporary jazz orchestra puts a new slant on the music of guitarist Pat Metheny, one of the biggest artists in jazz.

Big Band Metheny plays many of Metheny’s best known and most challenging compositions, including material from the Grammy-winning albums Offramp, First Circle, Still Life Talking and Secret Story.

The band features some great soloists from the London jazz scene, playing arrangements by Bob Curnow and others.

Big Band Metheny is led by bass player Dominic Bentham. The rhythm section features pianist Hilary Cameron and drummer Nigel Appleton.

Dominic Bentham bio:

Dominic Bentham has played double bass and bass guitar with many well known jazz musicians, acclaimed songwriters, world music groups and classical ensembles. He also leads and composes for his own groups.

Dominic grew up in Leicester and learned the cello from the age of eight, taking up bass at 15. He joined the Leicester Schools Big Band and later the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra. Dominic worked with songwriters Neol Davies (The Selecter) and Kevin Hewick (Factory Records) before moving to London.

In 2010 he gained his Master of Music in Jazz Performance with Merit from Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He also studied classical double bass and composing for film at the Guildhall.

In 2013 Dominic performed a double bass concerto by Robin Holloway, to mark the 70th birthday of this British composer. Other notable performances include leading the 18-piece jazz orchestra Big Band Metheny at Ronnie Scott’s, and concerts of his quintet group.

Dominic has composed music for television and has written articles for Bass Player magazine. He has taught many young bass players and cellists for Hillingdon Music Hub. He lives in London.
