Live music returns with a passion to the intimate and plush surroundings of our upstairs bar for our Monday to Thursday programme. Here is a rare opportunity to experience some of the best singers and instrumentalists on the London scene: from popular New Orleans fused singer/pianists such as TJ Johnson on Monday, through ‘jazz ‘n samba’ sets from leading vocalists such as Georgia Mancino and Luna Cohen on Tuesdays, ebullient trumpeter Andy Davies with guest accompanists on Wednesdays plus mouthwatering guitar duos featuring the likes of Jim Mullen and Ant Law on Thursdays. Club DJ Mike Vitti and friends will be spinning soul, funk and jazz vinyl on Fridays and Saturdays.
21 October – JIM MULLEN guitar & TOM REMON guitar
Jim Mullen is a living legend whose instantly recognisable sound has graced countless recordings. His early gigging days were spent with the likes of Average White Band and Kokomo. The wider public know him from his 70s jazz-funk days with the Morrissey—Mullen Band and he has been first choice guitarist with visiting US stars such as Jimmy Smith, Mose Allison and Gene Harris. In 2014, he featured prominently on the Citrus Sun album, 'People of Tomorrow', produced by Incognito co-founder, Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick.
Tom Remon is a young upcoming guitarist who has graduated from both Middlesex University and the Tomorrow’s Warriors Development Program. He has performed with Denys Baptiste, Steve Williamson, Gary Crosby and many others playing as a sideman and leader in many groups. He cites Peter Bernstein, and Wes Montgomery as his heroes. Through the idea of a mutual friend, Both Tom and Jim put their heads together and put together a duo jazz guitar album in August during the Lockdown. The album is to be released on Lunaria Records in March 2021 playing Jazz standards and a few of Tom’s Originals.

Pete Oxley began his musical career in Paris in the mid ‘80s before relocating to the UK in 1997. Shortly afterwards he opened The Spin jazz club in Oxford which in 2012 won the Parliamentary jazz award as ‘The Best Jazz Venue In The UK’. Pete regularly performs with some of the world’s leading jazz artists including Chris Garrick, Gilad Atzmon, Tim Whitehead, Dave O’Higgins, John Etheridge and his own band Curious Paradise.
Nicolas Meier’s unique style that is a blend of Metheny-esque jazz and Turkish inspired world music, He has toured extensively around the world with his band, the Meier Group.
4 November – ROB LUFT guitar & PAUL MALSOM guitar
Rob Luft is an award-winning jazz guitarist from London whose virtuosity has been compared to that of six-string legends John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola & Paco De Lucia. Praised by The Times for performances with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2015, who said he was destined “to achieve great things in the future”, Rob was subsequently the recipient of the 2016 Kenny Wheeler Prize from The Royal Academy of Music, and also of 2nd Prize in The 2016 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Born in Bournemouth, Paul Malsom was introduced to music at a very early age by his Grandfather, who was a violinist in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and through his Father's record collection which included a variety of Brazilian music – Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Laurindo Almeida et al. Further inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Gary Moore, Paul started playing the guitar at the age of 15. Developing a solo guitar technique inspired by Joe Pass and Martin Taylor, he also studied with Brazilian guitar specialist, John Zaradin, depping for him at major hotels in London and Brighton.Paul's solo performances are highly virtuosic, imaginative and expressive. 11 November – SIMON GOLDING guitar & MIKE OUTRAM guitar
Berklee trained Simon Golding is bringing some fusion to the Upstairs@Ronnie’s with much-in-demand guitarist Mike Outram. Mike has played all over the world & recorded around 100 albums with people like Steven Wilson, Carleen Anderson, Tim Garland, Theo Travis, Steve Lawson, Robert Fripp, Laura Rossi, Herbie Mann, Hadrian Feraud & Nikki Iles.. Contemporary jazz influences will be heard from 70s rock, jazz and fusion artists such as Wayne Krantz, Ben Monder, Brad Shepik, John Scofield, Scott Henderson and Mike Stern. Expect to hear modern standards from the likes of Vulfpeck to Pat Metheny to Jeff Beck as well as Simon’s own fusion trio group Rough Ramblers.

Tony Remy is one of the world's most exciting guitar players of any genre. His hard-edged rhythmically driven approach is enriched with jazz intuition and bluesy soul. His ability to adapt to any style of music sets him apart from many other guitarists and is the principle reason why Tony’s name is consistently near the top of the ‘must have’ list. Just ask Annie Lennox, Jack Bruce, Pee Wee Ellis, Mick Hucknall, Glenn Hughes, Craig David, etc. why they called him and the answer will always be the same - “Tony Remy delivers!” Keyboard player Anders Olinder, originally from Sweden, worked as a studio musician and live in the UK many years with the likes of Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Pee Wee Ellis (James Brown Band), Peter Gabriel, Amy Winehouse, Elliott Randall (Steely Dan, Sarah Jane Morris, The Communards) and Courtney Pine. An extremely versatile and tasteful player, he is the perfect match for Tony's passionate guitar artistry.
25 November – MARCUS BONFANTI guitar & LAURENCE CORNS guitar
Drawing on influences from the American Folk, Blues and Jazz scene of the early 20th century Marcus Bonfanti & Laurence Corns deliver an authentic take on the songs and guitar styles of that era. Marcus Bonfanti is a twice winner of best Acoustic Performer at The British Blues Awards and since 2014 he has fronted legendary Rock n Roll Band Ten Years After. Marcus is also the front man of The Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion now into the twelfth year of their residency at the club. Laurence Corns’ vast knowledge of guitar styles from across the world has lead him to work with many artists of differing genres from Madeline Peyroux to Stella Chiweshe as well as being the musical director of the critically acclaimed National Theatre production Fela! Be prepared to be taken on a musical road trip across The United States that you won’t forget.
