Live music returns with a passion to the intimate and plush surroundings of our upstairs bar for our Monday to Thursday programme. Here is a rare opportunity to experience some of the best singers and instrumentalists on the London scene:  from popular New Orleans fused singer/pianists such as TJ Johnson on Monday, through ‘jazz ‘n samba’ sets from leading vocalists such as Georgia Mancino and Luna Cohen on Tuesdays, ebullient trumpeter Andy Davies with guest accompanists on Wednesdays plus mouthwatering guitar duos featuring the likes of Jim Mullen and Ant Law on Thursdays. Club DJ Mike Vitti and friends will be spinning soul, funk and jazz vinyl on Fridays and Saturdays.

27 January – MARCUS BONFANTI guitar & LAURENCE CORNS guitar

Drawing on influences from the American Folk, Blues and Jazz scene of the early 20th century Marcus Bonfanti & Laurence Corns deliver an authentic take on the songs and guitar styles of that era. Marcus Bonfanti is a twice winner of best Acoustic Performer at The British Blues Awards and since 2014 he has fronted legendary Rock n Roll Band Ten Years After. Marcus is also the front man of The Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion now into the twelfth year of their residency at the club. Laurence Corns’ vast knowledge of guitar styles from across the world has lead him to work with many artists of differing genres from Madeline Peyroux to Stella Chiweshe as well as being the musical director of the critically acclaimed National Theatre production Fela! Be prepared to be taken on a musical road trip across The United States that you won’t forget.

3 February – MILES MINDLIN guitar & ARTIE ZAITZ guitar

Born in London, 20 year-old jazz guitarist Miles Mindlin has been gigging professionally since the age of 14 and has played at some of the most prominent UK and European Jazz clubs and Festivals. After beginning his studies at the Royal Academy in 2019. Mindlin released his debut Album 'Life Still On' and is soon to record his second. He is a member of the Alexandra Ridout Quintet and has performed with many other leading artists such as Seed Ensemble. Artie Zaitz has emerged in recent years as one of the UK’s top young guitarists. Exposed to the sounds of jazz from an early age, he studied classical guitar with David Parsons, and later went on to study jazz piano with Andrea Vicari as well as jazz guitarist David Okumu. Artie developed a particular interest in recordings form the Blue Note label which had a profound influence on the current material he performs with his quartet and trio. 

10 February – LAUREN LUCILLE vocals & JO CALEB guitar

Born into a musical family near Brisbane, Australia, Lauren shares her love and life lessons and stories through a musical fusion of jazz/pop/folk and has a sassy, soulful and versatile voice. She has been writing music since the age of ten, which, being heavily influenced by her family and upbringing, has morphed and changed over the years into her own unique style. Her show with first call guitarist Jo Caleb will focus on her Latin repertoire as well as a few choice jazz standards and some originals.

17 February – SHIREEN FRANCIS vocals & DOMINIC GRANT guitar

A warm, engaging and soulful performer, Shireen Francis has developed her own unique blend of jazz with flavours of gospel, blues, calypso and reggae. Shireen’s expressive voice coupled with her innate musicianship has delighted audiences all around the world. Born in London of Jamaican and Goan heritage, Shireen initially learned her craft in Afro-Caribbean music. However, inspired by artists such as Marlena Shaw, Dianne Reeves and Carmen Lundy, she soon moved into jazz singing and writing her own material. During her 25-year career, as well as her own acclaimed shows such as 'The Island Project’, Shireen has performed at top international venues and festivals,  and with top artists such as John Etheridge, Jim Mullen, Benny Green, Humphrey Lyttleton, Mark Murphy, Anita Wardell and Billy Ocean. “Quite simply, one of the best British jazz vocalists of this generation” BBC Radio.

Guitarist Dominic Grant has worked extensively on the West Coast of America, particularly in Los Angeles and Las Vegas with various bands playing variety of musical styles Jazz, Latin, Pop. He toured for two years with the Gary Puckett Band, played live with Albert Tootie Heath, Bill Henderson, Herman Riley and Phil Upchurch. Since returning to Europe in the late 90s, he has performed duos with Eduardo Niebla, Martin Byatt, Kathy Wilson, Nina Ferro, Victoria Newton, Kelly Dickson and Karen Lane.

24 February – DEIRDRE CARTWRIGHT guitar & KATHY DYSON guitar

Deirdre Cartwright is a London based guitarist and composer who first became well known in the 1980s for presenting the BBC TV’s ground breaking series 'Rockschool' and for playing in the Afro Latin Jazz group 'The Guest Stars'. They recorded three albums and toured in 17 countries. She has recorded five albums with her own Deirdre Cartwright Group, played with legendary guitarist Tal Farlow, studied in America with Mick Goodrick, toured with the Jamaican composer Marjorie Whylie, and presented on BBC Radio 3. She founded Blow the Fuse with Alison Rayner in 1989 and they won Services to Jazz last year at the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Awards.  “If there is a more complete guitarist in contemporary music than Deirdre Cartwright - I'd like to know who it is” Dave Gelly - The Observer.  

Kathy Dyson, a regular duo partner of Deirdre’s, is a jazz guitarist and teacher based in Bradford. She performs original compositions with saxophonist John Dyson in the Inside Outside Jazz Duo and teaches improvisation workshops. She’s also actively involved in the Musicians’ Union and works with them to raise the status of musicians, improve pay and conditions and sustain a creative career.
