Live music returns with a passion to the intimate and plush surroundings of our upstairs bar for our Monday to Thursday programme. Here is a rare opportunity to experience some of the best singers and instrumentalists on the London scene: from popular New Orleans fused singer/pianists such as TJ Johnson on Monday, through ‘jazz ‘n samba’ sets from leading vocalists such as Georgia Mancino and Luna Cohen on Tuesdays, ebullient trumpeter Andy Davies with guest accompanists on Wednesdays plus mouthwatering guitar duos featuring the likes of Jim Mullen and Ant Law on Thursdays. Club DJ Mike Vitti and friends will be spinning soul, funk and jazz vinyl on Fridays and Saturdays.
26 May – CORINA KWAMI vocals & CLEMENT REGERT guitar
American singer Corina Kwami blends her Ghanaian-Irish roots and experience living in 10+ countries across Africa, Latin America and Europe in her music and storytelling. An accomplished dancer as well, she has been heavily influenced by vernacular jazz dances such as rhythm tap, samba and West African dance - bringing a unique rhythmic take routed in movement and story-telling that blends cultures, like jazz has for decades. Her show with Clement Regert will feature her global repertoire including classic sambas, afro, and some originals.
2 June – SAM DUNN guitar & JAMIE TAYLOR guitar
Sam Dunn is a jazz guitarist, whose playing style is rooted in the swinging tradition of the music, but with a keen ear for contemporary improvisational expression. Recent gigs have seen him tour Australia with US pianist Judy Carmichael, as well as perform with artists including Howard Alden, Dave Green, Alan Barnes, Simon Spillett, Georgia Mancio and many others. He runs his own quartet with saxophonist Nadim Teimoori, with whom he recently toured the UK, which included playing at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, and is a member of Jon Shenoy’s ‘Draw by Four’ organ quartet. Sam has performed across Europe and beyond, and recently led the ‘Brentrance Trio’ at Jimmy Glass in Valencia. Sam is the jazz guitar tutor at the Purcell School where he helps educate the next generation of UK jazz guitarists. "Sam Dunn is a wonderful musician on all levels. Jamie Taylor has worked with leading American and European musicians such as Baptiste Herbin, John Stowell, Sheryl Bailey, Steve Fishwick, and Alan Barnes amongst many others. 9 June – NIGEL PRICE guitar & ALBAN CLARET guitar
Over a career spanning more than 25 years, award winning jazz guitarist Nigel Price has become widely acknowledged as one of the hardest working musicians in the business. Musically, his blend of flowing bebop lines, deep blues sensibility and his mastery of chording continue to delight audiences and fellow musicians alike. His career highlights include a support show for Gladys Knight at The Royal Albert Hall and an appearance on Van Morrison’s 2016 album ‘Keep Me Singing’. French guitarist Alban Claret, now based in London, comes highly recommended as a talent who is destined to turn many heads with his artistry.
16 June – SHIRLEY SMART cello & PETER MICHAELS guitar
Shirley Smart is recognised as one of the UK’s most versatile and creative cellists – being equally at home and well versed in jazz and Middle Eastern music, as well as classical music.
She was also highly active on the jazz scene, working with artists including Avishai Cohen, Omer Avital and Yasmin Levy. Since returning to the UK, she has quickly become known as one of the most creative cellists on the music scene and has worked with many leading jazz and world music groups, including Antonio Forcione, Mulato Astatke, Gilad Atzmon, Neil Cowley, Julian Ferraretto, Robert Mitchell, and Alice Zawadski. “One of the best improvising cellists in the UK” The JazzMann
Peter Michaels is a multi-instrumentalist and composer for film, theatre and the concert platform.
From classical and jazz roots, he has expanded his style across genres to become one of the most versatile composers in media today.
23 June – DAVIDE SITTINIERI guitar & PAUL MALSOM guitar
From jazz to funk to blues, the Davide Sittinieri & Paul Malsom duo plays a variety of creative arrangements ranging from relaxed grooves to lively tunes. First enamoured with the Stratocaster sound, Davide Sittinieri quickly learned to love blues and slide guitar, and went on to study jazz at the Conservatory of Music in Bologna, Italy. With his band, Wild Bones, he performed in many blues festivals throughout Italy which led to participating in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. From small clubs and theatres to international guitar festivals, Paul Malsom has performed around the UK and abroad, including support sets for 10 CC, Georgie Fame, Tommy Emmanuel and Martin Taylor. Paul has also demonstrated guitars for Korg UK, Takamine and Ovation as well as releasing a number of CDs under his own name and in collaboration with other artists. Bringing their diverse professional experience and combining different techniques and sounds, the varied repertoire of DS and PM makes for a groovy evening.
30 June – RACHAEL CALLADINE vocals & DOMINIC GRANT guitar
Rachael Calladine has been an acclaimed vocalist on the UK scene, going back to the late 90s. A songwriter in her own right, she can often be heard on club tracks throughout the world, ranging from albums by Gilles Peterson, Roger Sanchez, Café Del Mar to the Ministry of Sound. Following countless performances in numerous jazz clubs, she performs tonight with her long-time guitarist and great friend, Dominic Grant. Dominic has performed extensively in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with music greats such as Courtney Pine and Ronnie Laws. Their programme will include soulful classics with a twist of jazz in this wonderfully intimate setting.
7 July – TOM REMON guitar & ALEX HO guitar
Recent Middlesex University graduate and Tomorrow's Warriors alumnus Tom Remon is an up and coming Jazz Guitarist in the London Jazz scene who marked his Debut CD with UK jazz hero guitarist Jim Mullen "Duality" on Lunaria records, Tom has also recorded and performed Jonathan Gee, Steve Williamson, Sid Jacobs, Gary Crosby amongst others Tom Remon is currently signed to the independent label Lunaria Records. Alex Ho started off his career on the London scene in 2008 with bassist and educator Gary Crosby OBE who took Alex under his wing and invited him to join the Gary Crosby Quartet performing regularly at The Spice of Life in Soho as part of the artist development programme of the educational organisation Tomorrow’s Warriors. Since then Alex performed in some of London’s most important venues, international festivals and radio broadcasts, including BBC Radio 4, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Southbank Centre, Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, King’s Place, EFG London Jazz Festival, Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival, Guinness Cork Jazz Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival. In 2017 Alex collaborated and performed with saxophonist Steve Williamson both in duo and quartet settings.
14 July – DAVE PEABODY guitar/vocals & ALAN GLEN harmonica
Dave Peabody has been voted ‘Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year’ three times by the British Blues Connection and Blues In Britain magazine. He has been a guitar accompanist for such U.S. blues artists as legendary Mississippi guitarist David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, Cincinatti pianist Big Joe Duskin, and Grammy award winning harmonica man Charlie Musselwhite. Dave has performed in over 20 different countries playing festivals and clubs, and has appeared on over 50 albums, making him one of the most experienced and seasoned British blues men performing today.
Alan Glen started playing harmonica after seeing Muddy Waters and the 'American Folk-Blues Festivals' which visited London in the late ‘60s. He joined Nine Below Zero (1991–1995) and The Yardbirds (1996–2003 and 2008–2009). Alan has recorded with Dr. Feelgood, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, ‘Slash’, Skunk Baxter, John Mayall, Peter Green, plus many more. Alan has played Montreux and Nice Jazz festivals plus such prestigious venues as Hollywood’s House of Blues, Las Vegas’s Hilton, and London’s Royal Albert Hall, Hammersmith Odeon, Wembley Arena… and Ronnie Scott’s.
21 July – NICK FITCH guitar & JAMIE McCREDIE guitar
From showing great promise during his early days with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Nick Fitch has become a much sought-after, guitarist, educator, musical director and arranger. His wide skillset and experience in a variety of genres has led to working with a range of artists such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Professor Green, Mullally, Marisha Wallace and Lee Mead, plus in the jazz world he has worked with singers including Claire Martin, Nicole Henry, Tina May and instrumentalists Jim Mullen (Average White Band), Laurence Juber (James Bond, Paul McCartney & Wings) and Zane Carney (John Mayer).
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, over the last few years Jamie McCredie has cemented his reputation as one of the UK's busiest and most versatile guitarists. Recently returned from European/USA tour with Roisin Murphy, Jamie can be heard on her recent Mercury Music Prize nominated album ‘Hairless Toys’, and her latest release ‘Take Her Up To Monto’.
28 July – ROB KORAL guitar ZOË SCHWARZ vocals - Well known for their popular touring band Zoë Schwarz Blue Commotion, they are equally at home in the more intimate duo format. Expect a soulful mix of jazz and blues combining old school tradition with contemporary verve.
